Bouty’s products meet the ergonomic standards of the Canadian General Standards Board. The materials used to manufacture seats and chairs come from recognized suppliers, with whom the company maintains excellent relationships, and the parts are carefully selected. Bouty primarily buys its raw materials from Québec and Canadian manufacturers.

In 2005, Bouty established its Environmental Policy. The company thus made a formal commitment to do business responsibly, minimizing any potentially negative effects of its operations on the environment. Bouty’s Environmental Policy includes commitments to:

  • Conduct business in compliance with the legal environmental requirements in place at the municipal, provincial and national level, as well as keeping other environmental commitments it has made.
  • Review employees’ responsibilities and obligations to encourage methods that prioritize environmental health and safety.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of current environmental programs and revise them in a spirit of continual improvement.
  • Sell products made principally of materials from environmentally responsible suppliers.
  • Promote the reduction of pollution and the reduction of our ecological footprint on the environment.

Bouty obtained ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system in April 2007. In the first year after the standard was implemented, the company achieved its objective of recycling over 80% of manufacturing waste material, which used to be sent to landfill sites.

Such positive results were made possible by Bouty’s use of timber products from unthreatened species from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified forests. As well as using responsibly sourced timber to make each and every chair, Bouty also uses moulded and cut foams that are CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) free.

Following the success of its environmental program, Bouty sought EcoLogo certification. In June 2008, Bouty received EcoLogo’s CCD-033 furniture certification from terrachoice for the Quatra line. The EcoLogo label, which is part of Environment Canada’s Environmental Choice Program (ECP), guarantees that products it certifies are environmentally responsible. What’s more, the criteria by which a product is EcoLogo certified take into account all possible environmental impacts over the entire lifespan of the product.

In March 2011, Bouty obtained GreenGuard Indoor Air Quality® and GreenGuard Children & Schools® certifications for all of its products to facilitate LEED recognition.

Bouty is taking other concrete steps to protect the environment such as reducing paper usage and energy consumption. Bouty recently implemented a recycling program for leather scraps, which are now given to Bagnole, an innovative company that makes bags out of recycled materials.
